The MakeShaper Difference

It’s no doubt that 3D printing is the most exciting technology on the rise and with new technology – new challenges will arise. As printers continue to improve, the consumables have to match the hi-tech hardware in order to deliver the highest quality prints. At MakeShaper, we keep our filament at the forefront and make sure the only thing getting left in the dust is the competition.

Critical Factors to a Good 3D Print

Ovality and diameter diagram

Ovality & Diameter

The two most critical factors of filament are Ovality and Diameter. Ovality refers to the roundness of the filament. If you have filament not consistent or oblong, this will lead to less than desirable results when printing or problems with filament extrusion.

Our Testing

Laser Gauges Tolerances

When testing filament for accuracy, we only use state-of-the-art, properly calibrated equipment. To gauge these tight tolerances, we use a 3 axis laser that measures the filament constantly as it is being extruded. That’s right! We don’t just take a sample. We gauge every millimeter of filament extruded off of our production line to ensure you are getting the best quality.

Print Testing

We torture test our filament and refine all formulations for optimum performance. We use the same torture test MAKE HQ used during their 3D Print Weekend; it’s meant to push your printer and filament to the max!. We wanted to use something available to everyone so you can print your own torture test with our filament. Download the torture test here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33902

We torture test and optimize our materials through development and verification in a wide array of printers:

  • MakerBot Replicator 2x

  • Fusion F306

  • MakerBot Replicator

  • Stratasys uPrint Plus

  • MakeBot Gen 5

  • XYZ Printing DaVinci 2.0

We also test our filament in adverse conditions such as low/high humidity because out in the real world – we want to take into account environmental affects and how our filaments will perform under those conditions.

Why MakeShaper

To stand out in a sea of commodity filament, we chose to set the bar high and produce filament we would be proud to stamp our name on. Made in the USA, our filaments offer unique aspects that put us a step ahead of others.

Consistency

Manufacturing Expertise

We’ve been in the manufacturing game for more than 25 years. One of our secrets to success is our ISO- certified facilities, which ensures the highest quality standards and manufacturing practices are followed to the letter.

Quality

Research

We take quality seriously, which is why each filament we offer is researched and manufactured by our team of scientist and engineers, then quality tested multiple times. We make sure we are making products that we want to use ourselves.

Testing

We test our filament in a wide array of printers and in adverse conditions to ensure that you will receive a quality product that will produce great results in the myriad of 3D printers on the market.

Color

Color Consistency

We match our colors to the Pantone Color Matching System. This gives us a metric for color comparison and assures consistency. We give you peace of mind in knowing when you order filament – it will be the same rich, consistent color, every time!

Color Fastness

We have added UV stabilizers to our filament to ensure your prints will remain the same color over time. In fact, we guarantee your builds will not fade in an office environment for up to one year.
